we’ve had a busy day of exploring today. we were supposed to go ashore around here, but our landing area was covered in fur seals. fur seals, we are told, are crazy fast and bitey and their bites have so much funk in them that if you get bitten by them it’s basically an immediate evac situation. so we couldn’t land where we meant to and the alternate route was a scramble up a waist-high snowbank, up a shale cliff that we have to make sure not to rustle too much so we don’t disturb the wildlife, then up a pretty much vertical bank covered in ice and fast-growing super slippery algae, which if we slipped on would be basically a direct slide into a fur seal’s mouth or icy water or rocks. so instead we went for a boat ride. much better. #protectantarctic #antarctica @greenpeace
